ABOUT PULLED WOOL SADDLE PADS

Wool plays a crucial role in managing a horse's sweat by absorbing and releasing it, aiding in better cooling for the horse's back. Here are some key points about wool saddle pads:

  • Pulled wool saddle pads are designed with continuous loops to enhance airflow, preventing sores from trapped heat.

  • Wool compresses to absorb shock, making it suitable for roping and ranch work.

  • Known for their durability, wool saddle pads can last for years with proper care.

  • Making a pulled wool pad is labor intensive as a standard 32 x 32 pad contains 3,600 wool loops.

  • The felting process of wool is crucial, as wool fibers overlap and interlock to felt, the durability increases.

  • Wool's unique properties include resistance to mold growth due to its protein content, antibacterial and antimicrobial attributes, and efficient wicking capabilities.

Types of Wool

We offer a variety of wool, including merino and herdwick. Merino is celebrated for its strength and durability, a softer, finer fiber that creates heavy saddle pads. We offer several natural merino colors as well as roughly 100 dyed merino options. In contrast, herdwick is coarser, resulting in lighter weight pads with increased grip, making them ideal for round-backed horses susceptible to saddle pad rolling. Herdwick is available in natural light grey and dark grey.

Natural VS Dyed Wool

War Knot Wool describes undyed wool as "natural," which is available in various colors such as off-white, greys, blacks, and browns. In addition to our natural wools we offer approximately 100 dyed merino options. Please be aware that while it's rare, some horses may sweat "salty," which can result in slight color bleeding or pulling.

Meet the Maker

Meghan Christianson

Hello! I can't thank you enough for supporting my small business. There is nothing more fulfilling than sending good pads out to cowboys and cowgirls all over the country.

I have spent my entire adult life starting colts for the public and in that time I have learned the value of a good pad. It is my ultimate goal that every pad that leaves my hands gets to see pretty country and long days. If you have any questions at all don't hesitate to reach out.
